I've moved!
LiveJournal was making me feel a bit uneasy, so I moved my journal to wzdd.lardcave.net.

Unfortunately the new site doesn't yet have comments. I like comments, so I'll try to add that as soon as I can.

Can I ask how come it was making you uneasy? [curious]

Sure! TLDR: lots of my LJ friends have already left and the new LJ owners are sus.

1) It's not that easy to get data from LiveJournal. The official method only lets you do one month at a time and doesn't include comments. Most of my entries aren't worth saving forever, but I quite like a couple of them, as well as their comments. I didn't want to keep adding data to some place that would make it hard for me to get it back. But more importantly it just seems dubious not to let people easily access their own data. I went through and made Web archives in Safari of all my pages with comments. I'm hoping to add the comments again to my new blog but, even if I don't, at least I have an archive.

2) Ownership of LJ has changed hands recently a couple of times, and the new mob are more business-oriented. A while back LJ prevented people from signing up with Basic (free) accounts at all, and instead made new sign-ups choose Plus (ads) or paid accounts. A lot of people complained, so they changed it back, but I think now that Brad has moved on it is starting to feel more like a money-making venture. At some point they will charge for, or ad ads to, all accounts -- or they'll go under.

3) This isn't so much about unease, but many of my friends don't blog on LJ any more. Catie, Karen, Bryn, Marauder, and Benno all moved from LJ to their own journals. Ab, Jaq, Panthagaria, Roslyn, Xfire, and Joel just don't post much any more (looking through my friends list). So it doesn't feel like there is much community to participate in.

Yeah, lots of people don't seem to post on here as much (or at all) any more. Facebook and Twitter have become the dumping ground for thoughts that LJ would have once had, I reckon.

One thing I love about LJ is the comments. I hope it continues for a while yet. I really like my circle of LJ chums. :)

Yeah, that's it ... new people who want to blog or whatever go to Facebook or Twitter, where you can comment and get seen by a lot more people.

Now that I've finally started using RSS, I don't see as much need for Livejournal. You've been added to my "real-friends" folder!

I used to really value the privacy settings (as Stibbons points out), but for my current blog that's not as much of a big deal. So far...

I think about the only thing keeping me using LJ is the fact that I can easily filter things.

Because really, most of what I write is hella dull.
